Digital Champion Journey
So, you want to be a Digital Champion?
We would love to have you with us! We're always looking for more people who are keen to support the digital skills of everyday Kent people. If you're curious on the process of becoming a Digital Champion, check out the steps below to know what to expect. If you have any questions, please do contact us at digitalchampions@kent.gov.uk.

For details on each of the steps to becoming a Digital Champion:
This form can be found here: Digital Champion / Energy Champion Recruitment Form. You will be asked to fill in your personal information so we know a little about you and your background, and you will be asked to sign out Terms of Agreement to be on the DCN.
You can find our Terms of Agreement to read ahead of time here: Terms of Agreement.
You will receive a link to begin the DBS process. This link will be sent by Kent County Council’s internal DBS service, EmploymentCheck, and you will be asked to fill in your personal details. Sometimes these emails can be filtered into junk or spam folders, so please do keep an eye out!
Please note that the DBS process and therefore your application will not be able to continue if this information is not filled out, and if we do not hear back from you within a month of initiating the DBS check, we may need to close your volunteer application. If this needs to happen for any reason, don't worry as we will always welcome you back if you find you have more time in the future!
Once your information has been filled out, we will need to do an ID check to verify your identity. For this, you will be sent a link to book in for a virtual Microsoft Teams meeting with a member of our team.
You will need to have your various forms of ID with you to show on camera, and will need 3 forms of ID as listed on the Government website: ID checking guidelines for Standard/Enhanced DBS check applications from 22 April 2025.
Please note: If you have lived outside the UK for more than 12 months within the last 10 years, you must provide a fully translated Certificate of Good Conduct in addition to completing your DBS check. This must be funded by you.
If this is something you do not have and are unsure on how to acquire, please see the government website for details: Criminal records checks for overseas applicants or the Kent Advice Hubs.
You will receive an email when your DBS check has been approved with your DBS certificate, and the member of our team who checked your ID will also be emailed, so you do not need to send your certificate to us.
Once your DBS check has been approved, you will be sent a link to Delta, our online e-learning platform. This training will cover GDPR, Prevent, health and safety and more, to prepare you for supporting other people with their digital skills. You will also be able to access the Kent County Council's Digital Skills Hub, covering topics such as Microsoft 365 training, digital wellbeing information, and digital accessibility.
You will be sent a welcome pack in the post, containing some useful things for being a volunteer, as well as a Digital Champion lanyard that you can wear while supporting people. This has our contact information on it, so any time you need some support or need someone to verify your identity, you can get in touch with us easily.
Congratulations, you are now a Digital Champion! You can now access our resources, catch up on past training sessions and sign up for future ones, see what volunteering opportunities are available in your area, and start supporting people in your community. We are so glad to have you with us!
